My name is Simone M Brady AKA Ms Philosopher. I am going to give you a little background information about me so that you understand who I am as well as why I have created eight websites. I have a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, a master's degree in education with an emphasis in instruction and curriculum and I am earning a second masters in human and organizational development as well as a doctorate in human development. The specialization in this program is transformative learning and social justice.
When I returned to school in 2003 it was my intention to become a criminal defense attorney, District Attorney or a Judge. At some point I realized I was not able to defend guilty people. Although not all clients are guilty, how does one decipher between guilt and innocence? With regard to becoming a D.A. or Judge; I would still have to become an attorney before becoming either of the two. Further, my life experience as an attorney would not be enough to become a person who holds such power to make a person's life better or destroy it forever. I decided that this was not my cup of tea.
It is my opinion that people who hold such power should at least earn a master's degree in psychology in order to be knowledgeable enough about a person's character and the reasons why people commit crimes. After all, prosecutors and Judges have the power to determine the fate of defendants by taking them away from their families, putting them on probation and approving the death penalty in some states. Capital punishment is serious business and there is no room for err, and as we are all human; we have no right to take the lives of others. Especially when it is illegal for common folk to do so. It is G-d's job to give and take life.
When I realized that I did not want such power; I decided it may be a good idea to work for the FBI or the CIA but my graduation date did not coincide with the cut off date for the maximum age requirement for employment. I knew I did not want to become a prison guard or a probation officer but I was enticed by the idea of becoming a warden for a private prison that I wanted to develop. That idea did not last long either. My degree in criminal justice allows me to consider many professions even beyond the field of criminal justice. I can become a case worker for social services such as Child Protective Services, I can become a drug counselor, a substitute teacher and so forth. My degree in education allows me to develop curriculum for the school system, the criminal justice system and in fact many systems. When I receive my second masters and my doctorate I can become a professor, conduct research, have credentials for the books i am writing or even counsel prisoners. Many opportunities will become available.
With all of that said, I realized that I had a childhood dream to rehabilitate the homeless, addicts, and petty crime offending populations. I wanted to build a facility to which all of the above people can be included in different and effective programs that I can develop. By going through a sequence of processes; these people will be able to build a sturdy foundation in order to become "normal," law abiding citizens with the tools to reach their goals, become successful and maintain success. At this point in time, I wonder how any of these dreams can become realities because I was set up by a family friend (a crooked informant), to which I was involved in a sting operation and charges were brought upon me. I can only hope that my struggle to earn four degrees will pay off.
